Lunch boxes. I don’t know about you, but for me getting my son to eat his lunch and making sure that there is something healthy in there is a huge challenge. I am always stuck for new kids lunchbox ideas. I can’t tell you how many times we get home and I open his lunch box to find it full, one bite taken from most things! (Except of course for the empty rice wheels packets). I wasn’t too concerned about this, rationalising that if he was truly hungry he would just eat. That was until he started having “hungry tantrums” after school. You know the feeling, you are so hungry you become wildly irrational and loose it. Not fun from a 3 year old. I started bringing food in the car to collect him and he would devour it and beg me for more until dinner. I knew I had to change the situation so I went hunting for inspiration for kids lunchbox ideas and found Willow’s Lunch Box on Instagram. Charlie’s lunch boxes will never be the same again!

Willow’s lunch box is a clever and inspiring project by Willow’s mum Tarryn that is jam packed with incredibly cool kids lunchbox ideas. It all started when Willow’s daycare teachers began commenting on the beautifully presented lunches Willow brought to school. One picture on Instagram and over a 1000 followers later Willow (and her lunchbox) have become famous!
What’s all the fuss about you ask? Willow’s lunch box is exactly what we mums have been looking for. Simple and fun inspiration for healthy kids lunchbox ideas. Every lunch is visually stimulating and (somewhat) healthy! Willow is 3 so the lunch boxes are aimed at toddlers and small children but the ideas can easily translate for older children. Afterall, we all eat with our eye’s first and then our tastebuds later no matter how old (or young) we are! Kids Polenta Chips
- 1 L Chicken or vegetable stock
- 250 g Instant polenta
- 100 g Parmesan Cheese
- Salt and Pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying.
Line a baking tray with baking paper and choose your shapes.
Bring stock to the boil on stove top in medium sized sauce pan.
Whisk in the polenta.
Add parmesan and stir well.
Add salt and pepper and cook for approx 3 min stirring continuously.
Pour polenta onto tray and spread into a 1.5 cm thickness. Smoothing the surface.
Place in fridge to cool, then cut into fingers or shapes.
Heat oil on high and deep fry until golden brown.
Dry on paper towel and enjoy!
